JACKIE NORRIS STATEMENT ON ASHLEY HINSON SHUTTING DOWN THE GOVERNMENT
Des Moines, IA – Last night, Republican-controlled Congress shut down the federal government over Republicans’ refusal to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, which will result in health care premiums doubling for tens of thousands of Iowans. In response, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Jackie Norris released the following response:
“Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. It’s the responsibility of my opponent Ashley Hinson and her party to keep the government open. Instead, they’re shutting down the government all to force healthcare premiums to double for tens of thousands of Iowans.
“Earlier this summer, Ashley Hinson had a chance to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits to avert rate hikes which will send health care costs soaring. Instead, she voted to gut Medicaid to give tax cuts to the richest Americans and make life even more expensive for everyday Iowa families. As a result, her votes are raising our health care, housing and energy costs, shutting down rural hospitals, and eliminating funding mental health care for our kids. Ashley Hinson simply is not serving Iowa.”
